Website SEO optimization and what it's for

What is website SEO optimization and what it is for

Your website is created to promote and deliver information about your products and services to potential customers, and ideally, to the maximum number of people. And for this you need to promote the site itself:

This article will help you understand what website SEO optimization is, what it gives you as a website owner, and how it is performed.

1. Improving the visibility of the site

Your company website should be on the first pages of popular search engines. But, as you know, there are billions of sites on the Internet and millions like yours.

In order to make your site stand out from the rest, web page optimization, also called SEO (Search Engine Optimization), is used. Sometimes it is described as “improving the visibility of the site».

In the early days of search engines, optimization used to look quite simple: the search engine took the words from the user’s query, such as “create a site with wordpress“, and found pages containing these words – also referred to as “keywords”. The more often these words appeared on a web page, the higher it was positioned in the search results. Because of this, often SEO-specialists just fill all the empty space of the page with keywords written in a color that matches the background of the page (eg, white on white). This allowed them to get good results from the “optimization” of the site.

Of course, that doesn’t work anymore. Search engines have made their algorithms much more complex, have acquired artificial intelligence, have become really smart. Accordingly, SEO has become a difficult and expensive process. Moreover, improper SEO optimization of the site can give the opposite effect. If a keywords is used too frequently or unnaturally, a search engine can see this as an attempt to cheat, and lower the ranking in the search results, and in the worst case, to ban (block) the website. This is another reason to order a website from experts, rather than trying to do everything yourself.

2. The header, the description of the site and its design

should encourage users to click on the link to your site.

The process of SEO optimizing the site can also include setting up so-called meta tags – headings and descriptions of the site. It is not enough that the user sees a link to your website on the list of links output by the search engine. They should want to click on this link. And this link consists of just the title and description – a total of about 250 characters. This limited amount of information must convince the user that your site is what they are looking for.

3. Promotion through advertising

All of the above are ways of so-called “organic”, natural optimization of the site. They are absolutely necessary, but often insufficient. Organic website promotion takes a long time, months at least.

To speed up the process, you can turn to advertising. For example, Google Ads is an online advertising service that allows you to advertise your site on other sites, based in part on keywords. Setting up an advertising campaign with such services is not easy and is also a challenge for non-experts.

4. Site statistics

This is another important tool for promoting and optimizing your site. Website statistics can tell you, for example, how many users visited the site, what they were looking for, what pages they went to, how long they stayed on them, and where they went after. Based on statistics, you may change the text of articles on the pages, webpages design, or layout.
